CD Packaging Project

The Project

The assignment was to create CD packaging for a song of our choice. I decided to go with the song A Couple Minutes by Olivia Dean. We were to design the whole packaging, including the CD itself and the liner notes. Once we had the design, we had to print it out ourselves and construct it.

CD case with artwork depicting a woman lying on a sofa and a clock with exaggerated black hands.
Open handwritten note on cream-colored paper and a small square-shaped container with black drawing of a clock with an orange-colored circular element inside.

The Process

I went with the specific song because I thought I could use shadows to represent time in the song. I drew the whole design first on paper with colored pencil, then scanned it to my computer and went from there. For the liner notes, I wanted to make it look like a letter she is writing to the guy that she will probably never see again, as a goodbye. I put Olvia Dean’s signature at the end to make it look like she signed it herself. I made it come out of the side of the packaging to hint at the fact that it’s hidden in a way.

Back cover of a music album titled "A Couple Minutes," with track information and a barcode. The background has an abstract, painted scene with windows and sunlight.
Three colored sketches of diffused indoor scenes are placed on a wooden table with a white keyboard at the top. The sketches depict a person lying on a couch with a yellow wall behind, a silhouette of a woman standing near a lamp with a clock on a table, and a view of a building with windows and shadows, illuminated by warm sunlight.

The Process

Here are pictures of the original drawings that I scanned in.
